Default Tata Nano on display at the Detroit Science Center

Yesterday until the 24th, the Tata Nano can be viewed in Tata Technologies’ Better Innovation event at the Detroit Science Center, two miles away from the 2010 NAIAS at the Cobo Center. Tata Technologies’ Center for Advanced Engineering and Design in Pune, India loaned a champagne gold Nano LX marked with ‘BETTER INNOVATION POWERED BY TATA TECHNOLOGIES’ to highlight the company’s contribution to the compact car.

Tata Technologies, which has a regional headquarters in Novi, Michigan contributed more than 18 patents encompassing the Nano’s end-to-end vehicle engineering and design.

“The innovative thinking that brought the Tata Nano to market is symbolic of what Tata Technologies has to offer the automotive industry,” said Warren Harris, Tata Technologies’ President and COO. “Tata Technologies was front-and-center in engineering and developing the Nano; working closely with Tata Motors and with a significant number of the Nano project suppliers.”

Although the Indian manufacturer plans to sell the Tata Nano in the US, the unit on display is the car sold in India, not yet modified for the US market. A lot of changes still need to be made before it can meet US regulatory requirements more specifically with regard to safety and emissions. One thing’s for sure though. The US-spec Tata Nano will be sold for more than the $2,500 equivalent paid for by Indian consumers.

Tata Technologies is part of the Tata Group and is a global leader in Engineering Services Outsourcing (ESO), Product Development, Information Technology (IT) services and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). It is headquartered in Singapore, but has regional headquarters in the US, UK and India.
